Ministry of Transport: Destruction of Hayjat Al-Abd Culvert Worsens Taiz's Suffering
The Ministry of Transport condemned the Houthi group's destruction of the culvert on the Hayjat Al-Abd road connecting Lahij and Taiz provinces. It considered this an attack on civilian infrastructure that threatens commercial and service transport and obstructs the arrival of goods and basic materials to citizens, especially in Taiz province.
In a statement, the ministry said that the destruction of the culvert represents a direct assault on citizens' interests and daily livelihoods, and doubles their humanitarian and economic suffering amidst the country's difficult living conditions.
It stressed that targeting roads, bridges, and vital facilities undermines the movement of citizens and the transport of goods and supplies, calling on the United Nations, the international community, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to act to stop the targeting of civilian infrastructure.
It also called on the relevant authorities and international organizations to intervene urgently to assess the damage, work on rehabilitating the road, and restore transportation, ensuring the continued flow of goods, services, and essential supplies to Taiz and the affected areas.
The ministry emphasized the necessity of protecting public facilities and road networks from the repercussions of the conflict, and ensuring citizens' right to safe movement and access to food, medicine, and basic services.
