GCC Renews Support for Yemen's Unity and Political Solution to Crisis

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Sunday affirmed its support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen, stressing the need for a political solution to the Yemeni crisis based on agreed-upon references.
This came in the final communique of the 168th session of the GCC Ministerial Council, held in the Bahraini capital, Manama, which coincided with discussions on the serious developments in the region.
The Council emphasized the member states' commitment to Yemen's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and their support for efforts to end the crisis through dialogue and understanding, in accordance with the three references: the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
It stressed that a political solution based on these references would contribute to achieving the Yemeni people's aspirations for peace, security, and stability.
In a related context, the Council called for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on Yemen, including Resolution 2216 issued in 2015 under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, demanding the international community ensure strict enforcement of the arms embargo on the Houthi group.
The Council also condemned the continuous Houthi attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, affirming the Gulf states' solidarity with the Kingdom and their support for the measures it takes to protect its sovereignty and security, stressing that the security of the GCC states is indivisible.
