Protests in Mukalla Against Dismissal of Contract Teachers
The city of Mukalla in Hadhramaut governorate witnessed protests involving parents, students, and teachers against the dismissal and exclusion of several contract teachers, and to condemn the ongoing disruption of the educational process in a number of schools.
The protesters called on the competent authorities to intervene quickly to address the situation of contract teachers, settle their dues, and reverse the dismissal and exclusion measures that affected a number of them, stressing the need to find solutions that ensure the continuation and regularity of studies.
Parents expressed their concern about the continued disruption of the educational process and its impact on their children's future, as schools face a shortage of teaching staff due to the absence of a number of teachers.
The protests follow a comprehensive strike carried out by teachers demanding an increase in their low wages, which they say are no longer commensurate with the rising cost of living and difficult economic conditions, calling on the relevant authorities to intervene and respond to their demands.
