Maritime Authority Reports Ship Attacked in Strait of Hormuz
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Sunday a security incident and response to a distress call within the Strait of Hormuz, following an attack on a ship by an unspecified projectile.
The authority clarified that it received a report from the captain of a commercial vessel who stated he had detected a distress call via the emergency radio channel (VHF Ch 16), indicating that another vessel in the area was struck by a projectile from an unknown source.
The authority called on all commercial vessels and maritime traffic passing through the Strait of Hormuz to exercise the utmost caution during transit and to immediately report any suspicious activities, noting that the competent authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident, the nature of the projectile, and the resulting damage.
