Taiz Authorities Welcome Red Cross Efforts to Bring in Fuel, Await Houthi Response

The Emergency Committee in Taiz Governorate discussed on Thursday the repercussions of continued road closures on the humanitarian situation and stocks of food, petroleum products, and domestic gas, affirming its welcome of the International Committee of the Red Cross's efforts to facilitate the entry of supplies into the city.
During a meeting chaired by Governor Nabil Shamsan, the committee reviewed reports on the available stock of foodstuffs, petroleum products, and domestic gas, as well as supply needs and efforts made in coordination with the government and international organizations to secure the population's needs and alleviate their suffering.
The meeting discussed efforts to communicate with the International Committee of the Red Cross to facilitate the transport of petroleum products allocated to the governorate, currently located in Lahj Governorate, while awaiting a response from the Houthi group regarding opening the road and allowing their passage under the auspices of the International Committee.
Shamsan affirmed that road closures are the most significant obstacle to the flow of supplies and their normal delivery to citizens, stressing the need to coordinate efforts related to securing the governorate's needs through the local authority and the government.
He explained that Taiz's fuel and gas needs are approved by the government and available in sufficient quantities, as stated in the meeting, emphasizing the importance of coordinating with international organizations and the commercial sector through the local authority.
The committee rejected what it described as claims by some Houthi leaders that local authorities were obstructing the Red Cross's efforts, confirming its full welcome of these efforts and its readiness to cooperate to facilitate the entry of petroleum products and gas into the city.
It pointed out that the roads and crossings under the control of local authorities are open for the entry of supplies related to citizens' needs, renewing its welcome for humanitarian and commercial initiatives aimed at bringing in food, fuel, and gas, whether through the International Committee of the Red Cross or the private sector.
The committee called for concerted efforts and the facilitation of necessary procedures to ensure the arrival of supplies and the continuation of vital services in the governorate.
