Political Researcher: Houthi Control of Islands and Redeployment Unaffected by Airstrikes
Political writer and researcher Tawfiq Al-Jand stated that the recent Saudi bombing was not a response to military operations on the West Coast or to the exchange of fire on the fronts, but rather a reaction to the operation carried out last Friday in Sana'a.
In a statement to the "Al-Tasi'a" program on Al-Mahriah TV, Al-Jand explained that the operation in Sana'a did not involve an airdrop or a commando operation, contrary to what some media outlets reported. He pointed out that it included ground operations, coinciding with aircraft flying over Sana'a for two days for monitoring, surveillance, and carrying out field operations.
He added that, according to circulating information, the operations included targeting Houthi field commanders in the heart of Sana'a, considering such operations to be part of security and intelligence activities related to the war, not rising to the level of military operations that could change the balance of power on the fronts.
Al-Jand noted that the field developments in Ma'rib, Al-Jawf, Al-Bayda, Taiz, and western Lahj have not yet led to a fundamental change in the balance of power on the ground. He explained that the Houthi group has managed to control territory, establish defensive fortifications, and redeploy its forces, in addition to its control over the Zugar, Hanish, and Mayun islands, according to him.
He said that airstrikes alone do not change the military balance of power, noting that the Houthis have been dealing with air raids since 2015 and rely on light, fast-moving forces that can be transferred between fronts, making it difficult for aviation to target fixed combat capabilities or cause a decisive change in their field deployment.
The researcher pointed out that the impact of airstrikes is greater when they target institutions, facilities, and fixed assets, whereas the Houthi group relies heavily on individuals and small combat groups distributed along the front lines, which makes changing the balance of combat through airstrikes alone a limited matter.
