Boy and Girl Injured by Houthi Landmine Explosion While Herding Sheep in Rural Taiz

A boy and a girl were injured today by a landmine explosion planted by the Houthi group in Al-Mikisha village, Quds area, of the Al-Mawasit District in the rural part of Taiz governorate, while they were herding sheep, in an incident that reflects the growing danger of landmines to civilians in rural areas.
The Yemeni Mine Observatory (YMO) stated that the two children, who are children of citizen Abdul-Wali Ahmed Moghles, were injured by the explosion that occurred in the village, noting that this is the first recorded incident of its kind in the Al-Hujairiya area of Taiz governorate.
The Observatory considered the incident an indicator of the expanding area of regions contaminated with mines and war remnants in Yemen, and the continuous threat they pose to the population, especially children, farmers, and livestock herders, who are forced to move and work in open areas and rural roads.
Last month, the Observatory had reported that the Houthi group had carried out operations in the previous days to plant landmines in vast rural areas of Taiz governorate, warning that these operations pose a direct threat to the lives of civilians, including livestock herders and residents who use side roads, amidst fears of more casualties from mine explosions.
