Reuters: Houthis 80 km away from Aden
The Reuters news agency quoted four military sources on Monday as saying that the Houthi group has advanced to within 80 kilometers of Aden, the main stronghold and temporary capital of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
The military sources told the agency that this advance gives the Houthis an opportunity to encircle government forces along the mountain range overlooking the Bab al-Mandab strait.
The sources reported that the Houthis launched their attack on government positions in al-Maqatirah three days ago and have since seized the entire area, according to the agency.
The agency noted that "this advance brings the Houthis closer to Aden than they have been at any time since the early months of the war in 2015, when they briefly entered the city before being driven out."
