The Yemeni Observatory for Landmines announced that a boy and a girl were injured on Monday by a Houthi landmine explosion while herding sheep in Al-Mikaishah village, Quds, in the Al-Mawasit district of rural Taiz.
The observatory stated that this is the first such incident in Al-Hujariyah, Taiz, and considered it an indicator of the expanding area of regions contaminated by landmines and remnants of war in Yemen.
Landmines and unexploded ordnance in Yemen have claimed nearly 11,807 victims, including 4,262 killed; these figures represent the minimum number of documented cases, according to a report published by the Mokha Center for Strategic Studies in August 2026.
