Saudi Arabia defeats Kuwait with an own goal in the opening of 'Gulf 27'
The Saudi national team began its journey in the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup (Gulf 27) with a 1-0 victory over its Kuwaiti counterpart. The match took place on Wednesday at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, as part of the first round of Group A matches.
The only goal of the match came in the 73rd minute when Kuwaiti defender Yousef Al-Haqan mistakenly sent the ball into his own team's net, giving the hosts their first three points in the tournament.
The Saudi team asserted its dominance throughout the match and emerged victorious at the start of its tournament journey, securing three points as the group stage kicked off.
The match saw a large crowd in attendance for the opening of the 27th edition of the tournament, hosted in Jeddah. Eight teams are competing for the title until October 6th.
With this result, the Saudi national team leads Group A with three points, while the Kuwaiti team remains with no points.
