UN: Over 268,000 Displaced in Yemen, Thousands Flee by Sea to Djibouti

The UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced the displacement of over 268,000 people in Yemen due to escalating conflict, while thousands of Yemenis, half of them children, have fled by sea to Djibouti.
The organization said in a statement on its website that its data showed 3,836 Yemenis had arrived in Djibouti by October 17, half of them children, including 282 children under the age of five.
It added that most arrivals reported fleeing due to the deteriorating security situation, noting that some boats reached shore before their destination after running out of fuel. It also recorded the sea crossing of 1,327 migrants from Yemen to Djibouti as they returned to their countries of residence.
The organization explained that internal displacement in Yemen continued to rise, with the number of displaced people exceeding 268,000 by October 23, most of them since the beginning of last September, while the number of displaced families reached 44,736.
It pointed out that the number of displaced people in the temporary capital, Aden, in the south of the country, exceeded 42,000, having more than doubled since October 7, while Lahj governorate is hosting about 67,000 displaced people.
It noted that displaced families are spread across 62 districts in ten Yemeni governorates, reaching Al-Mahra governorate in the east, amid increasing difficulties in accessing clean water, healthcare, and basic services, along with fuel shortages and rising food and medicine prices.
