On Sunday, the European Union announced the allocation of €22.5 million for humanitarian aid in Yemen to mitigate the consequences of the renewed military escalation and meet the growing humanitarian needs of millions of people.

The European Union said in a statement that the new funding is in addition to the €87.5 million previously allocated to the country during the current year, 2026.

The statement added that the military escalation has led to large-scale displacement, a rise in civilian casualties, and worsened difficulties in accessing basic services and humanitarian aid.

It clarified that millions of people across Yemen continue to suffer from acute food insecurity and malnutrition, as well as limited access to healthcare and safe drinking water.

The statement quoted the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, as saying that Yemen has returned to the crucible of war and violence, at a time when its humanitarian crisis remains largely forgotten.

Lahbib added that civilians are paying a heavy price for the conflict, calling on all parties to stop attacks that kill civilians and destroy hospitals, homes, and essential services, and to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians.

She stressed that the European Union will continue to stand by the Yemeni people and provide needs-based humanitarian assistance, in accordance with the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
