The Ministry of Electricity in the Houthi government announced an increase in the commercial kilowatt price to 312 riyals, citing the rise in diesel prices.

In an announcement, a copy of which was obtained by "Al-Mahriah Net," the ministry stated that the "Electricity Activities Regulatory Board has approved a tariff matrix for the electrical energy unit sold to consumers by private generator owners, which is linked to and fluctuates with the price and cost of a liter of fuel (diesel).

It added: "Based on the diesel price per liter announced by the oil company on October 24, 2026, the tariff for the electrical energy unit sold to consumers is 312 riyals, effective November 1, 2026."

Residents in the capital, Sana'a, had complained about a new increase in electricity prices amidst growing living burdens and the declining purchasing power of families.

Residents said they were surprised by the increase in the price of a single kilowatt from 257 riyals to 318 riyals, an increase of 61 riyals, which is about 24 percent, according to recent bills they received.

Several residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the increase, considering it an additional burden on families who are suffering from deteriorating economic conditions and rising living costs, amid salary cuts for a large segment of employees and a worsening humanitarian situation.
