Meteorology Center Expects Heavy Rains and Strong Winds on Socotra Archipelago

The National Center of Meteorology and Early Warning predicted thunderstorms of varying intensity accompanied by strong downdrafts on the Socotra archipelago over the next two days; its impact will later extend to the Gulf of Aden, the eastern and southern coasts, and their adjacent inland areas.
The center stated in its weather bulletin on Monday that analysis of various weather maps, satellite imagery, numerical model outputs, and the bulletin from the Indian Regional Center for Cyclone Monitoring showed a low-pressure area in the southwest of the Arabian Sea.
The center expects it to develop into a tropical depression within the next 12 hours and move west-northwest of its location. Strong winds with speeds ranging from 18 - 28 knots are likely, which will cause high waves and sea turbulence around the Socotra archipelago.
The center warned fishermen and ship captains against venturing out and sailing around the Socotra archipelago and the Gulf of Aden. It also warned citizens residing in the Socotra archipelago about thunderstorms and to avoid being in flood paths.
