Meteorological Center Warns Socotra Residents of Thunderstorms and Sea Turbulence

The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning, on Tuesday, warned residents of the Socotra archipelago of thunderstorms, being in floodplains, high waves, and sea turbulence.
The center stated that various weather maps, numerical model outputs, satellite images, and the bulletin of the Indian Regional Center for Hurricane Monitoring, indicate that the noticeable low-pressure area centered in the southwest Arabian Sea is moving west-northwest.
In its weather bulletin, the center predicted variably heavy thunderstorms accompanied by strong downdrafts and a significant decrease in horizontal visibility due to heavy rainfall on the Socotra archipelago.
It added that its effects will later extend to the eastern territorial waters, the Gulf of Aden, and parts of the eastern and southern coasts and their adjacent inland areas.
Strong winds with speeds ranging from 18 - 28 knots are expected, which will cause high waves and sea turbulence around the Socotra archipelago and the Gulf of Aden.
The center warned fishermen and ship captains against venturing out and sailing around the Socotra archipelago and in the Gulf of Aden.
