Hadramout Coast Teachers' Strike Suspended, Classes to Resume Thursday

The local authority in Hadramout governorate and the Hadramout Coast Teachers and Educators Syndicate announced on Tuesday an agreement to suspend the strike and resume the educational process in all schools of the governorate's coastal districts, starting Thursday, September 24, 2026.

According to a joint statement, all teachers will return to their schools, and the suspension notices issued to contract workers will be canceled, allowing them to sign contracts with guarantees provided by the local authority.

The agreement includes the disbursement of a monthly incentive as per the court's ruling, with a 60% increase from the previous incentive, starting from September 2026. The local authority also committed to guaranteeing the rights and privileges of contract workers at the Education Office in accordance with existing regulations and laws.

Both parties also agreed to continue dialogue and coordination to address shortcomings in the management of the governorate's Education Office, contributing to improving the conditions of workers in the education sector as per the court ruling, and the syndicate's return to the committee previously formed by the governor to rectify the status of contract workers.

The statement emphasized that the students' interests and the stability of the educational process are a shared priority, while continuing to demand rights and dues through means that preserve the educational process.

The two parties also committed to continuing meetings and consultations regarding the remaining demands and issues under discussion, and to work on finding appropriate solutions according to available resources and legal procedures.

The local authority and the Hadramout Coast Teachers and Educators Syndicate stressed the importance of combining the efforts of the local authority, the education sector, the syndicate, and the community to advance the educational process and improve the school environment.

Both parties affirmed that the agreement comes within the framework of addressing the issues at hand through dialogue, in a manner that preserves teachers' rights and ensures the continuation and regularity of education in the schools of Hadramout Coast.
