Hadhramaut Early Warning Center Activates Pollution Monitoring System
The Early Warning Center in Hadhramaut governorate has activated an integrated environmental monitoring system to track chemical, radiological, and nuclear pollution, including elements resulting from nuclear leak accidents, primarily Cesium (CS-139). This is part of a precautionary plan aimed at enhancing environmental and health safety levels in the governorate.
These measures coincide with escalating regional tensions and the potential for indirect environmental leaks or impacts extending beyond the conflict zone, including to other countries in the region.
The center's experts confirmed that the system was activated in cooperation with the Finnish SILAM project to monitor any radiological risks or nuclear contamination.
They explained that the monitoring system operates with high efficiency, covering a distance of up to 5 kilometers, and can predict the movement and transport of potential pollutants over the next five days, based on wind and air current data.
They also noted that the center's real-time computing and analysis system enables it to detect chemical and nuclear compounds and accurately analyze their data, which enhances the speed of response and the implementation of urgent measures in the event of any environmental emergency.
