Amnesty International Calls on Houthis to End Detention of Lawyer Abdel-Majid Sabra
Amnesty International has called on the Houthi group for the immediate and unconditional release of lawyer and human rights defender Abdel-Majid Sabra, as nearly a year has passed since his arrest from his office in Sana'a without being formally charged.
Diala Haidar, the organization's Yemen researcher, said in a statement published by the organization on Thursday that Sabra is still being held at a facility belonging to the Security and Intelligence Service in Shamlan.
Haidar quoted one of his relatives as saying that he was interrogated regarding posts commemorating the 26th of September Revolution and regarding his work as a human rights lawyer.
Haidar considered Sabra's detention to be part of practices targeting critics, lawyers, and human rights defenders in Houthi-controlled areas, calling for the release of all those detained for peacefully exercising their rights.
