A Single Goal Gives Qatar the Win Over Yemen and a Spot in the Semifinals
The Yemeni national team lost to its Qatari counterpart by a single goal in the match that brought them together on Sunday evening, as part of the second round of the group stage in the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup.
The Qatari team scored the only goal of the match through Yousef Abdulrazzaq in the 64th minute, securing three new points and guaranteeing qualification to the semifinals.
The match saw a strong performance from the Yemeni team, which showed competitiveness against its Qatari counterpart and created a number of chances. However, its players failed to capitalize on them as required, while a controversial refereeing decision sparked debate after a penalty was not awarded to the national team.
With this result, the Qatari team raised its tally to 6 points at the top of Group B, following its 2-0 victory over Bahrain in the first round.
Meanwhile, the Yemeni team suffered its second loss in the tournament, after starting its campaign with a 4-0 defeat to the UAE, and will be seeking a positive result in its next match to end its participation on a better note.
