1,800 People Arrested After Mass Protests in France

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said on Sunday that authorities arrested 1,800 people after a day of mass demonstrations in several French cities protesting the rising cost of living.
Nuñez added, in a post on the X platform, that investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators of these acts so they can be brought to justice.
The police, whose officers were deployed in several neighborhoods of the capital, resorted to using tear gas to confront protesters, most of whom wore black clothes and masks, and some of whom threw projectiles and fireworks at security forces.
Paris Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire said that entire streets in the capital were "vandalized," as groups of young people roamed the streets of several cities, sometimes clashing with police, while cars were set on fire, and closed shops were attacked and looted.
Looting affected dozens of stores, including department stores, pharmacies, and shops for luxury goods, clothing, cosmetics, and electronics, in Paris, Marseille, Nice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Limoges, Lille, Toulouse, and Strasbourg, according to AFP.
