Yemeni Government Welcomes Regional and International Stances Supporting the Leadership Council and Maritime Security

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed on Wednesday a series of international statements that affirmed support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, stressed the rejection of disrupting navigation in the straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, and warned of the consequences of threats to the security of the region and the Red Sea.

The Ministry praised the joint statement issued by the quadrilateral consultative meeting of the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, and Turkey, held in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, and its included confirmation of the four countries' support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government.

It also welcomed the statement by the foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, and the High Representative of the European Union, which affirmed the rejection of disrupting navigation in the straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, warning that any disturbance to navigation through them would threaten security and prosperity.

The Ministry also pointed to a joint statement by the foreign ministers of Germany, Australia, France, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Poland, and the United Kingdom regarding developments in Yemen and the Red Sea, and the threat they pose to the region's stability, security, energy security, and freedom of navigation.

The Yemeni Foreign Ministry affirmed its support for the statements' condemnation of attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, including the recent attacks attributed to the Houthi militia, as well as the confirmation of support for the Kingdom's sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and its right to defend itself, its lands, and its people in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.

The Ministry held the Houthis responsible for these attacks and their consequences, and also held Iran responsible for its continued military support for the group, accusing it of attempting to use Yemen and its strategic location to serve its regional agenda and threaten the security of neighboring countries at the expense of Yemen's sovereignty and its people's interests.

The Foreign Ministry valued the countries' confirmation of support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, and their backing of efforts to achieve security, stability, and development, stressing that the solution to the Yemeni crisis, in its view, begins with ending the Houthi coup, restoring state institutions, and extending its authority over all Yemeni territory, in accordance with the three references.

The Ministry stressed that enabling the Yemeni state to protect its coasts and ports is a cornerstone for the security of neighboring countries and international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, and for preventing Yemeni territory from being used as a platform to launch attacks on the region's countries.

It called on the international community to translate its supportive stances into practical measures to implement relevant Security Council resolutions, address the sources of threat, stop the flow of Iranian weapons and military expertise to the Houthis, and disrupt their financing and supply networks.
