UN: Displaced women and girls in Yemen face grave risks

The United Nations has warned that displaced women in Yemen face grave risks in a country suffering from one of the world's worst humanitarian and economic crises.
In a statement, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said that in October, fighting along the west coast and the frontline in southern Taiz escalated to levels not seen in the country since 2020.
The statement added that the security situation remains highly volatile, with the crisis continuing to expand, and more than 300,000 people have been displaced since August 2026, the vast majority in the last two months.
According to the statement, about 82,000 people were displaced in October alone, most of them from Taiz governorate, and women and children make up more than half of the displaced.
The statement continued, "Women and girls are among the most vulnerable groups and face serious health and protection risks."
The UNFPA estimated that among the newly displaced are 6,400 pregnant women, and about 600 women are expected to give birth in the next two weeks.
It warned that road closures and insecurity continue to hinder access and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
However, according to the statement, since January 2026, the UNFPA has provided life-saving reproductive health services, protection services, information, and emergency relief to more than 710,000 people.
