United Nations: 313,000 displaced and 69 civilians killed in Yemen since August

The United Nations announced on Friday that 313,000 people have been displaced in Yemen since the beginning of last August, due to the escalation of fighting in several governorates in the west and northwest of the country. The UN Human Rights Office documented the killing of 69 civilians and the injury of 212 others during the same period.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that Taiz governorate recorded the largest number of displacements, with two out of every five people displaced during the mentioned period.
It added that children constitute more than a third of the 281 civilian casualties, including deaths and injuries.
The office confirmed that the United Nations and its partners continue to provide humanitarian aid to those affected, including ready-to-eat food, hygiene kits, and emergency supplies, as field conditions permit.
It called on all parties to the conflict to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, respect international humanitarian law, and ensure safe, sustainable, and unhindered access for humanitarian aid.
In a related context, UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said that the body of UN employee Mohammed Al-Shami, who died while in Houthi custody, is still in the group's possession, correcting information he had previously provided during a press conference on Thursday.
Dujarric reiterated the call for the Houthis to conduct an immediate, independent, impartial, and effective investigation into the circumstances of Al-Shami's death, and to hand over his body to his family without delay to allow them to bury him with dignity.
He also called for the release of all detained UN staff and other individuals associated with the United Nations.
