Strong Winds Cause Extensive Damage to Agricultural Sector in Tarim
Strong winds that hit the city of Tarim and its areas in recent days have caused extensive damage to the agricultural and livestock sectors, including the felling of hundreds of palm trees, damage to other trees and crops, and the death of more than 20 sheep.
According to initial reports received by the Office of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries in Tarim District, the number of damaged and fallen palm trees exceeded 250, including more than 150 in the Damoun area and over 100 in the Eidid area. Additionally, more than 20 lemon trees have fallen or been damaged, with varying degrees of damage to several farms and crops.
The weather conditions accompanying the winds also resulted in the death of more than 20 sheep, causing additional losses for livestock breeders in the affected areas.
The Office of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries emphasized that the figures recorded so far are preliminary and likely to increase as reports continue to be received and damage is assessed. It called on affected farmers and livestock breeders to promptly report the extent of the losses to their farms, crops, and livestock.
The office is continuing its efforts to survey and document the agricultural and livestock damage in preparation for completing the final report and submitting it to the relevant authorities, which will include the extent of the losses and the necessary requirements to address the effects of the weather event and support those affected.
