Shura Council calls for military operation to break siege of Taiz
The Shura Council has called for a large-scale military action to end the siege imposed by the Houthi group on the city of Taiz, demanding coordination of efforts between the armed forces, military formations, and popular resistance to open roads for civilians and deliver humanitarian aid.
In a statement on Saturday evening, the Council stressed the need for decisive military steps based on the readiness of government forces, in parallel with continued air support to neutralize Houthi combat capabilities and limit their movements towards Taiz.
The Council held the Houthi group responsible for targeting civilians and their homes, pointing to the recent shelling of a house in the Hayfan area, which resulted in the deaths of four women and girls and injured civilians, stressing that these violations will not be subject to a statute of limitations.
It called on the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to place Taiz at the forefront of national priorities, providing military, logistical, and humanitarian needs to enhance the resilience of the population and enable the armed forces to protect civilians and retake areas under Houthi control.
It also urged the United Nations, the Security Council, and international organizations to exert urgent pressure to end the siege, open roads, ensure the flow of food, medicine, fuel, and aid, and hold those responsible for violations accountable, instead of merely issuing statements of concern and condemnation.
The Council reiterated its support for the Presidential Leadership Council, the armed forces, security agencies, and military formations in the battle to restore state institutions, achieve the goals of Operation «Dawn of Yemen», and extend state sovereignty over all Yemeni territory.
In a related context, the Council rejected the campaigns of doubt and misinformation targeting national and social figures in Taiz, calling for the preservation of unity and social cohesion, and praising the resilience and sacrifices of the province's people in the face of the siege and shelling.
