Environmental Crisis Worsens in Taiz as Waste Piles Up
The environmental crisis in Taiz is worsening as heaps of waste continue to accumulate in rainwater drainage channels and floodways, which have turned into open dumps. This scene reflects the extent of environmental degradation and human suffering in the city.
This comes as garbage trucks are unable to reach the main landfill because the Houthis are blocking their passage. This has led to the accumulation of large quantities of waste in drainage channels and residential areas, amid growing fears of the spread of diseases, epidemics, and the proliferation of insects and rodents, in addition to the foul odors that threaten the health and safety of the population.
These conditions warn of a worsening environmental and health disaster amid the continued deterioration of sanitation services and the lack of necessary measures to dispose of the accumulated waste.
The city's residents are demanding urgent solutions to remove the waste and open the roads for sanitation trucks to reach the main landfill, saving Taiz from the repercussions of an environmental disaster that threatens the lives of its inhabitants.
