Drifting Sands Obstruct Traffic on International Road in Shabwa
A number of citizens and travelers confirmed that the international road connecting the areas of Al-Ain, Al-Nashima, and Arqa in Shabwa governorate has gradually turned into dangerous crossing points that threaten their lives and property due to the continuous encroachment of drifting sands, which have restricted the road and traffic flow.
They explained that they are engaged in perilous maneuvers and are forced to use lanes for oncoming traffic to avoid the dense dunes, amid a lack of intervention and solutions from the concerned authorities in Shabwa.
Citizens and travelers pointed out that these conditions have recently resulted in numerous tragic traffic accidents, in addition to disrupting travel and obstructing the movement of commercial goods between Yemeni governorates.
They are appealing to the local authority and the Ministry of Public Works to intervene and fulfill their duties by performing regular road maintenance and removing the sand dunes to protect lives and secure movement.
