Political Analyst Hopes for Successful Omani Mediation to End Houthi-Saudi Confrontation
Qatari political analyst Dr. Ali Al-Hail said that Israel is the beneficiary of the continued confrontation between the Houthi group and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, considering that the continuation of the Arab-Arab conflict serves Israeli interests and drains the Kingdom's capabilities.
Al-Hail added, in a statement to the "Al-Tasi'a" program on Al-Mahriah TV, that the repeated Houthi attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh raise questions about the sources of power the group relies on, noting that its confidence in continuing the attacks, despite their repercussions, requires an investigation into the factors enabling it to persist.
He explained that Israel benefits from the Arab countries being preoccupied with their internal conflicts, pointing out that, in his estimation, it seeks to drain and weaken Saudi Arabia, which might later push it towards normalization with Israel.
Regarding international positions, Al-Hail pointed to broad Arab and Islamic solidarity with the Kingdom, alongside supportive stances from the European Union and the United States. However, he expressed doubts about Washington's desire to end the confrontation, citing statements by US President Donald Trump about communication channels with the Houthis.
He noted that Trump's annoyance with the targeting of King Khalid International Airport could affect the American position, but he said that the direction of this position in the next phase remains unclear.
Al-Hail stressed the importance of the alliances that Saudi Arabia is working to strengthen with Arab and Islamic countries, considering them an opportunity to support the Saudi position against Houthi attacks.
In conclusion, he expressed his hope for the success of Omani mediation in containing the escalation between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia and stopping the confrontation, citing the role of Omani mediation in reaching understandings between the Houthis and the United States regarding the Red Sea, and stressing that diplomatic efforts represent an opportunity to spare bloodshed and end the conflict.
