Yemen U-17 Team Draws with Egypt's Enppi in Cairo Camp
Our U-17 national youth team drew 1-1 with the Egyptian club Enppi's youth team in a friendly match on Tuesday at the Enppi club stadium. This concluded the team's overseas camp in Cairo, in preparation for the 13th U-17 West Asian Championship, scheduled to be held in Aqaba, Jordan.
The technical staff, led by coach Anwar Ashour, was keen to play the match with the same lineup that started the first friendly match, with a change in the goalkeeper position, as Mohammed Al-Sanhani replaced his teammate Abdullah Al-Haithami.
Our team started the match with a lineup that included: Mohammed Al-Sanhani in goal; in defense: Khaled Rizk, Mohammed Shafi, Ayman Baghoui, and Abdo Ali; in midfield: Sailan Bashir, Saber Sanad, Ahmed Al-Yahri, Ali Shafiq, and Ali Farea; while Mohammed Sadiq led the attack.
The first half saw a relative advantage for the Enppi team, which capitalized on its players' physical strength and height difference. They relied heavily on high balls and physical challenges, successfully ending the first half with a one-goal lead.
At the start of the second half, coach Anwar Ashour made two substitutions to enhance performance, bringing on Mohammed Ahmed Mohsen and Mahdi Abdulkarim for Ali Shafiq Al-Wosabi and Ahmed Al-Yahri. Our team then appeared stronger and asserted its dominance over the match.
Our team translated its superiority into an equalizer scored by Ali Farea in the 32nd minute of the second half, following a better offensive performance. However, the players missed several opportunities that could have secured a lead, before the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The youth national team thus concludes its friendly matches in the Cairo camp. It will depart today, Wednesday, for Jordan to participate in the 13th U-17 West Asian Championship from September 26 to October 5, 2026. They will compete in Group A alongside Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon.
