The local authority in Taiz governorate has called for an urgent technical investigation into field reports of the Houthi group using shells suspected of containing internationally banned toxic substances on the Al-Aqroudh and Kahlan fronts, amid reports of suffocation and fainting in similar past incidents.

The local authority stated that reports from several fronts in the governorate, most recently Al-Aqroudh and Kahlan, require verification of the nature of the substances emitted from the suspected shells and their connection to the recorded health symptoms, in addition to documenting cases, testimonies, and medical reports.

It called on the relevant state authorities to open an urgent technical investigation to determine the nature of the suspected substances used and to document the incidents and potential health effects. It also urged the United Nations and relevant international bodies to support the investigations to uncover the facts and hold those responsible for any use of prohibited materials accountable, should the results confirm it.

The local authority held the Houthi group responsible for its attacks and the resulting threat to the lives and safety of civilians, warning against continued escalation or resorting to prohibited methods of warfare.

It stressed that the use of shells suspected of containing prohibited materials will not achieve any field gains for the Houthis, nor will it change the reality by terrorizing the population and endangering their lives.
