Foreign Minister: Iran is a party to the war on Yemenis, not a peace mediator

Yemeni Foreign Minister Afrah Al-Zouba accused Iran of supporting the Houthi group with weapons, funding, and training, stating that Tehran is a party to the war on Yemenis and not a peace mediator, in response to Iranian statements about supporting a political solution between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis.
Al-Zouba stated, in remarks reported by the official Saba news agency, that Tehran's talk of mediation contradicts its role in supporting the Houthis and what she described as its contribution to prolonging the war and undermining opportunities for a political settlement.
The minister's position came in response to statements made on Saturday by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who said his country supports a political solution between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, at a time when the confrontation between the two sides is seeing a military escalation.
Al-Zouba accused the Houthis of continuing to target presidential and government headquarters and Aden's airport, in addition to besieging Taiz and shelling its residential neighborhoods, launching attacks on Marib and Saudi Arabia, and threatening maritime navigation.
The minister stressed the Yemeni government's refusal to grant the Houthis legitimacy to represent the country, warning against using demands related to lifting restrictions on their areas of control to obstruct the arms embargo imposed on the group.
She also affirmed the Yemeni government's solidarity with Saudi Arabia and condemned Iranian attacks on Gulf countries and Jordan, calling on the international community to support the Yemeni government and implement UN Security Council Resolutions 2216 and 2624.
Al-Zouba considered that addressing the Yemeni crisis requires dealing with Iran's role in the conflict, rather than presenting it as a mediator, according to her statements.
