EU Warns of an Energy Price Crisis
EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen said the bloc faces an energy price crisis due to the repercussions of the Iran war on oil and gas markets, and urged countries to consider measures to curb energy demand.
In a letter to the bloc's energy ministers, Jørgensen added, "We are facing a price crisis linked to a supply crisis," according to Reuters.
He explained that although the EU is now more prepared than it was in the winter of 2021, when Russia reduced gas supplies to Europe by cutting delivered quantities, governments must intensify preparations for this winter.
In the United States, Bloomberg reported, citing informed sources, that the administration of US President Donald Trump is discussing options to limit the rise in diesel prices, amid the continued increase in oil prices due to the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
According to the site, these options range from suspending fuel taxes to lifting restrictions on the sale of a type of diesel intended for off-road use, which is the tax-exempt red-dyed diesel used by farmers and others.
The site mentioned that US Vice President JD Vance called for measures including a ban on diesel exports, noting that the discussions involved the Vice President along with the secretaries of Energy, Interior, and Treasury.
