Red Sea Film Festival Postponed Amid Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia

The Red Sea Film Festival Foundation announced on Monday the postponement of the sixth edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival, which was scheduled to be held next December in the Saudi city of Jeddah, to the last quarter of 2027.
The announcement coincides with escalating regional tensions, including missile and drone attacks carried out by the Houthi group in Yemen towards Saudi Arabia.
The Red Sea Foundation did not link the postponement decision to the security situation, clarifying that the decision was based on timing requirements and logistical arrangements necessary for organizing an international event of this scale.
The ongoing attacks in the region raise concerns about the security of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which is one of the most important international sea lanes off the Yemeni coast.
The Red Sea Film Festival, one of Saudi Arabia's most prominent international cultural events, attracts directors, stars, filmmakers, and leading figures from the film industry from around the world.
The Foundation stated that its programs will continue throughout the year, including the Red Sea Fund and Red Sea Labs, noting that it plans to launch its programs in the "Culture Square" in historic Jeddah, a UNESCO World Heritage site, next November.
The festival is part of Saudi Arabia's efforts to expand its entertainment and culture sectors, within the framework of its economic transformation plans, with significant investments in cinema, gaming, sports, and other fields.
