The First Deputy Governor of Taiz, Abdulqawi Al-Mekhlafi, has directed the opening of closed commercial shops in the city's central wholesale market and the sale of food items directly to citizens at reasonable prices, as part of measures aimed at curbing monopoly and price manipulation.

This came during a field visit conducted by Al-Mekhlafi on Monday to the wholesale market center in the Al-Qurashi district, accompanied by the Director-General of the Office of Industry and Trade, Abdulrahman Qulaia, and a team from the office, to inspect the supply situation and the mechanisms for selling and distributing goods, where a number of closed shops were opened in implementation of the directives.

Al-Mekhlafi also directed that food items be sold directly to citizens from the trucks arriving at the market, under the supervision of the Office of Industry and Trade, to facilitate their access to basic needs and limit monopolistic practices.

He stressed taking legal measures against violators and showing no tolerance for hiding food stocks, monopolizing goods, or manipulating their prices, emphasizing the continuation of field monitoring and tracking the movement of goods and commercial inventory to ensure the availability of food and protect citizens from exploitation.

He called on merchants to adhere to price controls and cooperate with the relevant authorities, which will contribute to stabilizing the markets and alleviating the living burdens on citizens.
