Grundberg Concludes Visits to London and Berlin to Discuss Advancing the Political Process in Yemen
The UN Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, concluded visits to the British capital London and Berlin this week, where he held discussions with officials in both countries regarding developments in Yemen and the region, and efforts to advance the political process.
The meetings discussed ways to support the Yemeni-led political track amid the ongoing conflict and its humanitarian consequences. Grundberg briefed officials on his efforts to keep the political process alive and reach a comprehensive settlement to the conflict that contributes to regional stability.
The UN envoy stressed the importance of coordinating regional and international support to push the parties towards a negotiated settlement of the conflict.
On the humanitarian front, confrontations since the beginning of August have displaced about 260,000 people from their areas, with nearly half of them heading to Taiz governorate, according to United Nations data.
The international organization stated that its humanitarian partners have been able to reach about 174,000 displaced people since August, equivalent to six out of every ten displaced families, providing them with food aid, hygiene kits, and emergency cash support during the first days of their displacement.
The United Nations reiterated its call on the parties to the conflict to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, adhere to international humanitarian law, and ensure safe and unhindered humanitarian access.
