The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, said on Wednesday that he is not for a new truce or a ceasefire agreement, but for achieving a sustainable peace based on a state without militias outside of state control.

This came in a speech by Al-Alimi during a broad meeting with leaders and representatives of official and local Yemeni media institutions, which was broadcast on state television.

Al-Alimi said: "We are not for a new truce nor for a ceasefire agreement... We are for a permanent and sustainable peace based on a state that monopolizes weapons, and without militias outside the state."

He stressed that "sustainable peace is not based on sharing sovereignty between a state and militias... The state must monopolize sovereignty and monopolize force."

He considered that the state's position today is completely different from previous stages, in light of internal unity, a cohesive political and military front, growing popular support, and a fundamental regional and international shift in understanding the nature of the Houthi threat.

He said in this context that from now on, there will be no action taken by the Houthi militias without a comprehensive response or deterrence.

He noted that "the situation today has changed... We have armed forces under a single operations room, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and the Supreme Military Committee, and this force is ready to play its role in defending Yemenis and their national facilities and institutions, and that the strategic goal for us is to work to restore state institutions and overthrow the coup."

He went on to say: "We present our final message to the terrorist Houthi militias that the opportunity is still available to lay down their arms, transform into a political party, and compete through the ballot box on an equal footing with all other Yemenis," stressing that Yemen has room for everyone under the roof of the state and the law.
