Paris Saint-Germain wins Lyon clash with two late goals and tops the French league

Paris Saint-Germain won the marquee match of the eighth round of the French football league, defeating their visitor Olympique Lyonnais 2-0 on Monday at the 'Parc des Princes' stadium, thanks to two late goals scored in the second half.
With this victory, Paris Saint-Germain topped the standings for the first time this season, raising their total to 17 points, one point ahead of second-placed Stade Rennais, while Lyon's points remained frozen at 14, placing them in fifth.
The home team, despite the absence of several key players due to injuries, dominated the match. However, the brilliance of Slovakian goalkeeper Dominik Greif of Lyon prevented his net from being breached on several occasions, as he saved a number of dangerous attempts.
Despite continuous Parisian pressure, Lyon almost surprised the hosts and opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, when Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov brilliantly saved a close-range shot from Julien Duranville.
In the second half, Paris Saint-Germain continued their pressure in search of a leading goal. Portuguese player João Neves missed a clear chance from inside the penalty area, while the visitors maintained their defensive resilience. Goalkeeper Safonov also shone, saving a header from Senegalese player Moussa Niakhaté.
Spanish coach Luis Enrique of Paris Saint-Germain made several substitutions, bringing on Lucas Hernandez, Mika Godts, and Senny Mayulu. His changes paid off in the 72nd minute when Mayulu received a pass from Godts on the edge of the penalty area before unleashing a magnificent shot that found the net, giving his team the lead.
Six minutes before the end of regular time, Paris Saint-Germain extended their lead with a second goal. Quentin Ndantou sent a long ball to Godts, who bypassed a defender before firing a well-placed shot from the edge of the box that Greif could not save, securing three precious points for the Parisian team and putting them at the top of the French league.
