UNESCO funds project to revive the historic Habban Library in Shabwa

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has approved funding for a project to protect and revive the historic Habban Library in Shabwa Governorate, as part of mechanisms for protecting cultural property in emergencies.
Our country's ambassador to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Mohammed Jumaih, said that the approval came from the Culture and Emergencies department within the framework of the 1954 Hague Convention and its protocols, following a request submitted by the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Yemen in coordination with the Shabwa branch of the General Organization for Historic Cities.
UNESCO informed the Permanent Delegation today of its approval to fund the project, which aims to protect and revive the historic library in the city of Habban.
In December 2025, UNESCO had listed the historic city of Habban under enhanced protection, along with six other Yemeni heritage sites.
