Oman Renews Support for a Political Solution to the Yemeni Crisis that Preserves the Country's Unity

Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi stated that his country renews its support for a political solution to the crisis in Yemen that preserves the country's unity, stability, and territorial integrity, and meets the aspirations of all components of the Yemeni people.

This came in a speech delivered by the Omani minister before the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Saturday, in which he addressed regional and international developments and his country's position on crises in the region.

Al Busaidi emphasized that the Sultanate of Oman calls on all Yemeni parties for "effective response and cooperation among themselves" to reach a just settlement of the crisis, which preserves the rights, dignity, independence, and territorial integrity of the Yemeni people.

He stressed the importance of the political settlement ensuring secure relations for Yemen with all neighboring regional countries, allowing the Yemeni people to move towards construction, development, and prosperity.

The Omani position comes as Muscat continues its diplomatic efforts regarding the Yemeni file. On September 24, Al Busaidi discussed the latest developments in Yemen and efforts to achieve consensus among Yemeni parties with the Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Abdullah Al-Alimi. They emphasized the importance of a comprehensive Yemeni dialogue leading to a consensus-based political settlement that protects Yemen's unity, sovereignty, security, and stability. 

In the context of regional developments, the Omani Foreign Minister noted that the region entered a preventable war at the beginning of the year, warning that the escalation could extend to threaten the security of the region's countries and disrupt navigation and trade through vital maritime corridors, with subsequent impacts on energy security and price stability.

He affirmed his country's commitment to continuing its efforts to safeguard navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the principles of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, calling on the concerned parties to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, and reach consensus-based political solutions.

Al Busaidi also reiterated his country's rejection of the ongoing Israeli aggressions against Arab countries and its condemnation of what he described as the Israeli occupation's violations against the Palestinian people, calling for the achievement of a two-state solution based on the June 4, 1967 borders and UN resolutions.

In its recent diplomatic moves, Oman has emphasized the importance of addressing regional crises through dialogue and political means. Its foreign minister has also discussed ways to de-escalate tensions and support peace pathways with Yemeni and international officials.
