EU Provides €3.1 Million to Support Humanitarian Air Transport in Yemen

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) announced on Friday that the European Union has provided a financial contribution of €3.1 million to support humanitarian air transport services in Yemen, ensuring continued access for aid organizations to hard-to-reach areas.
In a press release, the WFP stated that the funding, provided through the European Union's humanitarian aid operations, helped maintain the operations of the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS), managed by the WFP, over the past year amidst growing humanitarian needs, security challenges, and limited commercial air services.
It explained that during the funding period, the service operated 716 flights, transporting approximately 6,430 passengers representing 110 humanitarian organizations and institutions, including UN agencies, local and international non-governmental organizations, and diplomatic missions.
It added that the service also provided security services and medical evacuations, in addition to facilitating the safe and reliable movement of humanitarian workers and the transport of essential relief shipments between different Yemeni regions.
The WFP noted that the humanitarian air service remains a lifeline for relief operations in Yemen, given ongoing operational constraints, security challenges, and limited transport options, emphasizing that European support has helped humanitarian organizations maintain their field presence and continue providing aid to those affected by conflict, displacement, and difficult economic conditions.
