UAE Seeks to Halt US Military Support for Saudi Arabia
"High-level sources" reported that the UAE is intensifying its pressure in Washington to limit US military support for Saudi Arabia.
The sources said that Abu Dhabi seeks to prevent Riyadh from achieving any decisive victory in Yemen, coinciding with the recent military escalation by the Houthis, according to the "Dark Box" website.
The website stated that this move represents "another dangerous stage in the deterioration of Saudi-Emirati relations," adding that Riyadh forcing Abu Dhabi to withdraw from Yemen did not end the competition, but rather changed the battlefield.
It continued: "Saudi Arabia now bears the burden of the Yemeni file amid renewed military pressure from the Houthis. For Abu Dhabi, a decisive Saudi victory would create an uncomfortable regional reality. Riyadh could rebuild an anti-Houthi camp under Saudi leadership, consolidate its influence in Yemen, and reduce the importance of the political and military networks the UAE has spent years building. A Saudi success would demonstrate something Abu Dhabi does not want to see: the possibility of reorganizing Yemen without the UAE."
Informed sources indicated to the website that "the UAE's goal is not necessarily the political defense of the Houthis, but to prevent Saudi Arabia from obtaining the necessary US military support to achieve a decisive victory." Furthermore, "a prolonged Saudi-Houthi confrontation drains Riyadh's resources, keeps Yemen fragmented, prevents either side from imposing a new political order, and would provide far more space for Emirati influence than a Saudi-dominated settlement."
